Current research

My current research in the RhizoTraits project relates to environmental and management reasons for cereal yields under climate change. A special focus lies on the dominant cereals wheat and maize and their modern and historic varieties. Drivers of yield increase, variability, and stagnation are identified for the last decades in Bavaria, including a preindustrial time step. The results can be used for sustainable management and choice of cereal varieties, being resilient against droughts because of their rhizosphere traits.

Motivation

Agriculture is one of the most important linkages between humans and their environment. My interests lie in reducing its consumption-induced impacts on biodiversity while maintaining food supply under climate change.
